MHS Coach McCuiston Named Coach of the Year!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Photo cutline: Mickey McCuiston, MHS Varsity and Junior varsity Girls’ Soccer Coach and the 2010 Coach of the Year, Small School Division, and members of the MHS Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team and Regional Soccer Champions and State Elite 8 recipients, were recently recognized during the Murray Independent School District November Board Meeting.

Murray, Ky., Nov. 19------Mickey McCuiston, MHS Varsity and Junior varsity soccer coach, has been named the 2010 Coach of the Year—Small School Division (high school enrollment less than 800), during the recent annual coaches’ association meeting for Kentucky High School Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association. Also recognized: Jaclin Patterson, All-State Honorable Mention, All Region 1st Team, and All District; Megg Hudson was named All Region 1st Team and All District; Victoria Verburg named All Region 2nd Team and All District, while Chloe Farris was named All Region Honorable Mention and All District.

Named at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville during the Kentucky All-State Games, McCuiston and other honorees will now be considered by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the National Coach of the Year consideration. The Coach of the Year award is broken into three categories: Small Public School, (Mickey McCuiston), Large Public School, greater than 800 enrollment - Bo Lankster, Lexington Tates Creek, and Private School, Steve Fugman, Lexington Christian Academy.

During the meeting coaches and members of the KHSCA association nominate deserving coaches. The finalists are presented at the meeting to the coaches and support statements are offered from attendees. Afterwards a vote of the membership is conducted and the coach receiving the highest total is given the award.

“I was surprised and honored to receive the award, especially since it was bestowed upon me by my coaching peers. I consider this is to be a true team award and points to the success of the team and how hard everyone worked to reach the goals we had coming into the season. The parents and players should also be commended for a job well done,” McCuiston said.
